Salem on Trial
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (March, 1998)
Authors: David Cody Weiss, Bobby J. Weiss, and Bobbi J. G. Weiss
Average review score:

needs spicing up a little
the book was ok but most of the time the charectors were miserable which made the book boring and seem to drag on. it wasnt as bad as dogs life but not as good as sabrina goes to rome or showdown at the mall. it could have been a good book if it wasnt so plain, but it was ok

A good Sabrina Book
This book was really good and I loved how she went back into the olden days and discovered the colonial past of Westbridge. It had a lot of suspense in it. It was good.

It was the best!
I LOVED this Sabrina book, It was well-written and very suspensful. Salem was a riot! When going back in time for some serious studying, Sabrina and Salem are sentenced with witchcraft! Find out how they escape and what "Colonial West Bridge" was like.

The Guardian (Forbidden Doors #05)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Tyndale House Pub (October, 1995)
Author: Bill Myers
Average review score:

An action-packed book all the way!
This was a well-rounded book. The perfect book for teens battling spiritual warfare. If you are a teen, read this book! I am a teenager myself, so this is from a teens point of view. It is very profound, especially when it comes to Julie dealing with the demon controlling her. But it can be a little intense. I wouldn't recommend this book to kids under 12. If you like horror books, but can't get your hands on them heathen horror stories, pick up the whole Forbidden Doors series today!

WOW!
This book is absolutley great. It works on so many levels... and all the while staying true to its Christian roots. I remember reading this book in 6th grade (I am a Sophmore now) and not being able to put it down. It just grabs you and pulls you into this deep and compeling story. Everything works so well because it is coming from a Christian point of view and it makes you see God's power through the characters. It also is a very chilling book, and doesn't let a horror fan down. While the content actually can get very morbid at times (alot of talk of death and the after life, plus a girl floating above her bed ala Exorcist). It scared me in 6th grade and I was already a vey big horror fan, and I rarely got scared by a book. If you are a Christian (or interested in Christianity) pick this book up. It shows that you can be way out there and still be a Christian.

It is a very good book.
I think that anyone with teenagers in the family should read this series. My mother didn't want to read it, but after the first book, she wants to read the series.

The Salem Witches' Book of Love Spells: Ancient Spells from Modern Witches
Published in Paperback by Citadel Pr (October, 1998)
Authors: Lilith McClelland and Lilith McLelland
Average review score:

This book was both humorous and informative.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. The author took a humorous approach to something serious and pulled it off. The book was extremely informative, using very practical and useful spells without taking it to a majorly serious level. She also provided a Q+A of questions asked about Salem witches. This book was fantasic and I would reccamend it to anyone weather your advanced in witchcraft or just beginning. You get a strong laugh out of it as well. :-)

This book IS full of serious Love Spells...
...and anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't a clue! Her writing has a WONDERFUL comic-edge to it which keeps you smiling through each page! And, it contains LOADS of magickal recipes and blends. From potions, to incense, to oils! This book is a complete delight!!!!!! And, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for love spells....

A funny, but seriously written book!
I have been interested in spells every since I was a little girl. Never have I read such a work from an author who can, at times, laugh at herself and what she believes in. Lilith tells the reader exactly what to do for these spells to work, and lays down the ground rules first. A must-have for your library!

A Break With Charity: A Story of the Salem Witch Trials
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Author: Ann Rinaldi
Average review score:

Excellent literature
I thought A Break With Charity was one of Ann Rinaldi's best works. This novel was filled with much detail. It explained what happened during the Salem Witch Trials, and what it was like for the people who accused others. This book wasn't filled just with facts about the Salem Witch Trials, it told a story about a young, fictional character, whoose family was accused of being witches. In my personal Opinion this was a excellent piece of literature...

WOW
This book was awesome. "Who will they call on next?" is the one question that ran through my mind as I read. Susannah English wanted to join the girls, and listen to the stories and fortune-telling that goes on in the Paris household. Later on, when those girls pretend to be afflicted and cursed, names are called out, those names, are those of "witches." If you read this, you'll learn how Susannah and other Salem villagers survived through the Salem Witch Trials, and how it ended! Fascinating topic Ann, you really got me hooked! READ THIS BOOK!

A Break With Charity
A Break With Chatiry is a story about the Salem Witch Trials. It is about Susanna English. She wanted to be part of the girl's circle of witchcraft. When the girls were found out their father's made them tell them who their tormenters were. Normally they were their parents enemy, the tormenters. Susanna know they are lying since one of the girls told her it was just a game. Susanna wants to tell her family and her boyfriend, but can not since the girls would cry out on her family. These people are Puritans and the girls just wanted to have fun, since their way of life was kinda of boring. Bad times were on Salem and the people needed a scapegoat.

I would recommend this book to people who are mature. This book is a little gruesome and people should take it seriously since this did happen. We hopfully have learned from their mistakes.

Remember September
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Pinnacle Books (September, 1999)
Author: Jon Salem
Average review score:

Forget September
This was one of the most disappointing reads in a long time. The book starts out well but goes downhill quickly. The sequence of events that befall Stephanie Hart and all who are close to her are simply unbelievable. The characters, save Monty and Abby, are not well developed. There is a focus on one inane killing after another with hardly any insight into the mostly stereotypical characters' reactions to the state of events. We need much more insight into Stephanie's reaction to the deaths around her especially when the deceased were supposedly near and dear to her. This book would have been a lot better had there been fewer characters and "terrifying" events and more of an attempt to concentrate on a few well developed characters. The sex scenes really serve no purpose . When the identity of the killer is revealed there is nothing more than a numbing sense of relief that this book is finally over. As for Stephanie, at this point I really didn't care if she lived or died. That's the extent to which her character had come alive. As for the killer, it would have been nice to know some of what motivated him, his thoughts and feelings. The ending is so convenient its unbelievable.Remember September? I think not.

The Best Book I've Read in YEARS!
This book left me flabbergasted. This is the first book that I was actually unable to figure out the ending. Talk about an explosive ending! There were 3 surprises that left me in awe. Jon Salem is now on my number list of author's right next to James Patterson. I hope he writes more books like these!

The prologue pulls you into the story
This first work of Jon Salem's is a masterful story of spousal abuse, dishonest lawyers,a justice system that fails the disadvantaged and helpless victims. The main character is Stephanie Cain, a lawyer, having experienced a great tragedy in her youth, overcomes her past, only to have it brought back into her present life in the form of threatening notes, phone calls, and finally the murders of some people close to her. The story keeps you enthralled as the truths come out about what really happened as Stephanie finally does REMEMBER SEPTEMBER when her mother's abusive boyfriend was killed intheir home. The plot has many twists and surprises, including some romance to lighten up this powerful, edge of your seat, thriller. A KEEPER for mystery lovers!

Dog People
Published in Hardcover by Forge (June, 1998)
Author: Merry McInerney-Whiteford
Average review score:

A sad, wise story about growing up
Dog People strikes right to the heart of American culture, the dysfunctional family, and the tragedy left in the wake. This book evokes both pity and fear, the elements necessary for true tragedy. Merry McInerney-Whiteford has written an important book, and she has written it masterfully.

A heart-wrenching page-turner
As painful as this story was to read, it simply can't be put down. For many of us, growing up was a whole lot more like this than the Brady Bunch or Cleaver household. One result of Dog People is that it takes us back to those dysfunctional days to acknowledge and comfort our struggling child, embodied here by Trisha. That power is what makes McInerney-Whiteford a natural-born storyteller, and her talent is fully displayed in this well-developed and moving novel.

A Fine, Sensitive, Lovely Book
A Fine, Sensitive, Lovely Book
Rarely do I read a book as generous and gentle and moving as DOG PEOPLE. Merry McInerney-Whiteford beautifully explores what it meant to come of age in America in the heart of the 60s revolution, in a family as unstable as the society as a whole riddled with its own excesses, addictions, and boundary breaking. This is an exploration of gain in the face of loss, hope in the face of hopelessness, redemption in spite of death. A fine, oddly-neglected, book!

Salem Possessed: The Social Origins of Witchcraft
Published in Paperback by Harvard Univ Pr (March, 1976)
Authors: Paul Boyer and Stephen Nissenbaum
Average review score:

Excellent, thorough book
I was actually assigned this book for an anthropology class, but I couldn't put it down. Boyer and Nissenbaum look at every possible contributing factor to the witch craze that took hold of Salem in the late 17th century. They are careful to present all of the data upon which they based their hypotheses, allowing the reader to judge the validity of their claims. Salem Possessed provides an enlightening look at the pressures (social, economic, religious) that affected all of the villagers, and manages not to vilify any particular person.

This book's strength is it's thoroughness, but it is also it's major drawback. It can be difficult to keep track of all the names, households and dates. However, it is well worth the effort, and I heartily recommend this book.

A fascinating, well documented, and comprehensive book!
Boyer and Nissesnbaum's work on Salem is a fascinating look into the social stresses which were at the root of the explosion of accusations in this small Massachusetts town. Each of the elements in this disaster, i.e. the questionable ministerial skills of Samuel Parris, property disputes between the Proctors and Putnams, the conflicts between Salem Village and Salem Town, are thoughtfully analyzed as part of a whole. I higly reccomend this book for anyone wishing to have a deeeper understanding of the true causes of the Salem trials.

More Fine Points on the Salem Witch Craft Hysteria
This has been a very popular book with many Salem Witch Trials researchers. This particular book focuses on the competition and jelousy over land in Salem Village. Some very excellent chats also depict the "Anti Parris" people of the time and how they were connected to those accused. Interesting points are also made in regards to taxation.

A definite book to check out if you are interested in all aspects and theories of this truly sad time.

The crucible; text and criticism
Published in Unknown Binding by Viking Press ()
Author: Arthur Miller
Average review score:

Witty, full of irony and plot twists.
It is a wonderful play which expertly portrays events which could have happened in old Salem. The ending is particuarly great!

it's great.
I have finished reading the Crucible - it is simply great. The text is wonderful, full of ironies and dramatic scenes - for example, the scene where Elizabeth lies for the first time in her life to save Proctor's reputation, only to realise that her good intentions have unwittingly helped Abigail. Land wars, revenge and a host of other reasons show us the repressed state Salem was in in those days. The relationships between the main characters : Proctor, Parris, Abigail, etc, were understandable and one could actually feel himself or herself praying that a particular character would survive the madness, or feel sympathy for even the villains. The Crucible was a great experience for me, and I hope that via this review many of you out there will go and buy this book to see what I mean.

Classic tale of witchcraft ..
I really enjoyed this play even though it was a class assignment. It gives you a feel of this huge chunk of our worlds history that no one can fully understand. I wasn't really into ready anything of this sort, but it was really cool. I liked it a lot :)
